About
American artist, Donna Bruni, is known for her large scale, atmospheric oil paintings on canvas. She uses broad, richly layered planes of color to create a sense of place within the canvas surface. Daily observation of light, air, water, wind, land, sky seasons and life cycles become contextual elements for abstraction. The compositions are based on form and flux of urban and natural environments. The process involves applying oil pigment with palette knife, mixing color directly on canvas, building, scraping, lifting and brushing out areas to reveal or cover details and marks left beneath the surface.
Donna's work is widely exhibited and held in public and private collections in the United States and Italy. Her studio practice encompasses teaching and curatorial projects. She is art curator at University of Minnesota's Mill City Clinic, collaborating with medical and artist communities to engage imagination, meaning, creativity and wonder in healing spaces, through the Art in the Healing Environment Exhibition Program.
Donna studied art and design at Endicott College and the School of Visual Arts in New York with Milton Glaser. She was an Art Director, freelance graphic designer and business owner in the New York metropolitan area, before establishing her studio in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. She holds a B.A. from University of Minnesota in Visual Art and Healing.
